1. 研究目的与意义
Learning English is challenging. A different system of grammar, sound, rhythm or alphabet can be the obstacle that keeps learners from achieving better language skills. For most of the Chinese English learners, the negative transfer of Chinese culture, due to the big differences existing between both languages, is the main cause of the hold-back. If we know more about the influence caused by negative transfers then we can encourage learners to study its culture to improve cross-cultural communication competence when learning English.
2. 研究内容和预期目标
Cultural transfer can have a negative influence on language learning because of the differences among countries. Negative cultural transfer influence will be analyzed from the point of view of culture. Language and culture are inseparable. This paper consists of five parts. Chapter one is brief introduction of negative cultural transfer and thesis statement. Chapter two focuses on the definition of cultural transfer along with the relationship between language and culture. The former gives a clear definition of culture transfer and its forms. Chapter three is manifestation of negative cultural transfer which contains both theoretical analyses which has been presented in published studies and practical which is based on my personal experience. Chapter four will show some solutions to avoid this problem. Chapter five is conclusion. It will show the importance of learning culture of target language. And it will sum up the contents.

There are four common methods and approaches among modern foreign language education. There is STRUCTURAL which based on beliefs about the structure of language while grammatical and syntactic elements of the foreign language will be isolated. There is COGNITIVE which based on studies of foreign language strategies specifically applied to only foreign language learning. This method focuses on learning style compatible with style of one''s own. INTERPERSONAL which focuses on the psychological level along with affective pre-dispositions of the learner in order to enhance one''''''''''''''''s learning which is based on the concepts learn from social psychology studies. The last one is FUNCTIONAL which focuses on language acquisition throughout learning progress. It is often referred to as natural approach. The Grammar-Translation approach still remains the main trend among schools in mainland. This approach was widely used in Latin Grammar School where Latin and Greek would be learned in order to understand the Holy Bible. Classes are taught in students'' first language, with very little use of the target language. Vocabulary is learnt in the form of isolated word lists. Teachers provide rule of putting words together but pay little attention to the texts which are used as exercises while learning grammars. Very little or even zero attention is given to pronunciation. The Direct Approach is widely used in language institutions. The class is presented by teachers who speak the target language as their mother tongue. The first language of students is never used. Along with culture which is a vital aspect of learning the language. While in America, teachers are more willing to create a communicative classroom which fosters acquisition of the target language. Teachers or instructor does not make correction to speeches made by students immediately. Students are allowed to respond using the target language, their mother tongue or even a mixture of both languages. To have a meaningful communication is the main focus of this approach.
4. 计划与进度安排
In order to finish my final paper on time, I will strictly follow schedules listed as below: I will have my first draft ready by March 19th, 2022. There will be enough time for me to do certain amount of reading which is critical of the progress to create a grounded and convincing argument. Background and thesis statement will be presented in the very first part of my final paper. For the second part, a general idea of cultural transfer will be included along with the importance of bringing in aspects of culture learning and understanding during language teaching. Views that have already been proved true by different fields of studies will be brought in to support my paper. By May 6th, I will begin to modify my paper under the help of my tutor. Mid-term report will be covered as well. My final paper will be fully ready on May 10th.
