By studying the roots of the love tragedy of the hero and heroine, we can understand why the hero Heathcliff became crooked after he suffered the heroine Catherine#8217;s betrayal. Also, we can know the view of marriage, values and the world view of men and women at that time in British society.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

1. Content: From analyzing the internal and external factors and the author#8217;s personal intention, this paper tells how the social environment at that time in British society, and characteristics of Heathcliff and Catherine lead to the love tragedy in Wuthering Heights.

2. Problems:

(1) I will spend a lot of time on data compilation because the information is too much. (2) Because of the limitation of my personal opinions and ability, maybe I cannot analyze the objects comprehensively and thoroughly.

3. 国内外研究现状

There are variety researches on the Wuthering Heights at home and abroad. The main points including love, revenge, society, the hero Heathcliff and feminism.

In recent years, domestic research on Wuthering Heights has made gratifying achievements. Such as Zhang jing analyzed the revenge of the characters in her thesis, and at the same time made a research on the roots which trigger the revenge. She said #8216;Revenge, the main theme in this novel, neither exists in isolation, nor happened in one person coincidently. There are social and personal reasons. (2012)#8217; Also, Fu wenyao analyzed this novel in the view of love and hate. He described that #8216;Hate cannot destroy love, and love is more powerful than hate. (2011)#8217;

There are more diverse views on the research of Wuthering Heights in foreign literature. Like Seichepine, Marielle made an analysis on this novel from the view of the heroine Catherine#8217;s childhood. She said #8216;Catherine#8217;s dreams of happiness are associated with childhood all through her life, and even on her death-bed she still looks like a child.(2004)#8217; Also like Cory, Abbie L. he analyzed the novel in the view of gender, class and rebellion. He said #8216;In this article, I want to expand upon Eagleton#8217;s ideas, situating Wuthering Heights, not just in the revolutionaty era of 1840s Ireland, but also in the England of that period#8230;(2005)#8217;And Lodine-Chaffey, Jennifer analyzed the novel from the aspect of Heathcliff#8217;s abject state. He wrote that #8216;As a result of his abjection, Heathcliff exhibits borderline personality traits. He abuses human beings and animals, and constantly rejects social laws.(2013)#8221;#8220;Although he seems to realize his abject state and reject his carefully planned revenge at the end of his life, Heathcliff cannot move away from abjection.(2013)#8217;
